Multiwavelength monitoring of the dwarf nova VW Hydri. III. IUE observations.
Abstract
IUE observations of VW Hyi were obtained between September and November 1984 during three ordinary outbursts, one superoutburst, and quiescence. Progressive fall in UV fluxes is noted during quiescence, and the UV flux lags behind the optical flux during the rise to outburst peak. Initially in the superoutburst, the fluxes rise to the level of an ordinary maximum, and subsequently, the fluxes at the short wavelengths decline significantly before rising to the superoutburst maximum. Hours variability in the flux variations is noted during both quiescence and superoutburst. High-resolution spectra of the superoutburst maximum show a blueshift of 400 km/s in the centers of the UV resonance lines.
