Abstract
The JWST Advanced Deep Survey (JADES) is the largest deep survey program that will be executed in the first few of years of operation of JWST. Three GTO Teams (NIRCam, NIRSpec, MIRI-U.S.) have combined time to produce a survey which will ultimately cover over 100 square arc minutes from 0.7 to 5 microns and 10 square arc minutes at 7.7um and produce thousands of galaxy spectra.
The imaging portion of the initial JWST Advanced Deep Extragalactic Survey (JADES) data release (Rieke+, 2023ApJS..269...16R) comes from the NIRCam imaging of program 1180 (PI: Eisenstein), observations 7, 10, 11, 15, 17, and 18. These data were acquired from 2022-Sep-29 through October 5. The total area covered by these observations is about 25'2 overing the Hubble Ultra Deep Field (HUDF) and portions of Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey South (GOODS-S). These JADES data are combined with imaging from the JWST Extragalactic Medium-band Survey (JEMS; program 1963, Williams+ 2023ApJS..268...64W http://dx.doi.org/10.17909/fsc4-dt61). JEMS imaged one NIRCam field in five medium-band filters, F182M, F210M, F430M, F460M, and F480M. While not as deep as the JADES data, these filters provide additional resolution on the spectral energy distributions. The imaging data presented in the second release (DR2; doi=10.17909/z2gw-mk31) of the survey covers the imaging acquired in September-October 2022. The number of filters is increased from 9 to 14 with the inclusion of imagery from JEMS (DOI 10.17909/fsc4-dt61). The area covered is approximately 60 square arc minutes with exposure times per filter ranging from ~14,000 to ~73,000 seconds. These data provide large galaxy samples for studying galaxy evolution from z~1 to at least z~13, and also to study the full diversity of galaxy characteristics. As a part of JADES DR3 (D'Eugenio+ 2024, arXiv:2404.06531), we are including images and catalogs from the NIRCam imaging in GOODS-N, observed as the Medium Prime part of JWST program 1181 (PI: Eisenstein). These data were observed in February 2023 and include 7 overlapping medium-deep pointings, each with 8-9 separate filters. The imaging data are supplemented with F182M, F210M, and shallow F444W imaging from the FRESCO survey (Oesch+ 2023MNRAS.525.2864O). JADES NIRSpec observations are described in Section of arXiv:2404.06531 and Bunker et al. 2023, arXiv:2306.02467 (20 data files).- Publication:
