The Dark Galaxy J0613+52
Abstract
A recent 21-cm survey by our team uncovered a new galaxy, J0613+52, which has an HI mass of ~109 Msun yet lacks any optical counterpart. Unlike all previously discovered "dark" HI clouds, through, J0613+52 is an isolated object with no known or visible companions within at least 30'. The galaxy's total mass and rotational velocity, as measured by the Green Bank Telescope, appear to defy current theories for star formation suppression.
