Anthocyanins: Biotechnological targets for enhancing crop tolerance to salinity stress
Abstract
Salinity stress triggered anthocyanin accumulation in salt-tolerant crops. Anthocyanin regulatory/biosynthesis genes overexpression induces salt tolerance. Anthocyanins act as antioxidants, stress signals, and osmotic agents under salinity. Anthocyanins showed several human health benefits and the food industry. Biotechnological interventions are necessary to elevate anthocyanins for the above.
