Evaluation of a Variety of Novel Infrasound Sensors and Sensor Packages
Abstract
The infrasound community has been making use of lower cost infrasound packages for research deployments, both in land-based and balloon-borne applications , in recent years. Understanding the performance of these infrasound sensors under a range of operating conditions is important for assessing the research results obtained when using these sensors. We have evaluated representative sensor packages, including the GEM, Raspberry BOOM, Samsung S10 using RedVox, and the Camas condenser microphone and the InfraBSU sensor. Evaluations are conducted to measure power consumption, sensitivity, amplitude linearity, frequency response across 0.01 Hz to 20 Hz, self noise, frequency response variation across wide ranges of barometric pressure and temperature, and sensitivity to acceleration. We present results of these evaluations.
