Gaia EDR3 documentation Chapter 1: Introduction

This chapter of the Gaia EDR3 documentation describes the Gaia mission, the Gaia spacecraft, and the organisation of the Gaia Data Processing and Analysis Consortium (DPAC), which is responsible for the processing and analysis of the Gaia data. Furthermore, various properties of the data release are summarised, including statistical properties, object statistics, completeness, selection and filtering criteria, and limitations of the data.
