Food Supply for a Lunar Moon Village
Abstract
(Here we assume that choices have been made and that natural resources are plentiful) In this paper we treat the supply of food for the crew of a mature lunar village situated near the Moon's South Pole. We assume that choices have been made such that water and air are limited mainly by economics. We also assume the creation of a large reservoir in which essentially unlimited seafoods can be grown. The farm for growing vegetables will be large enough to handle synthetic meat production as well as most required greens. Ideally only some flavorings would need continuous resupply from Earth. The question of whether or not to include, for example, chickens is left unadressed at this stage, given the prospect of vegetarian meat production. A steadily-increasing variety of products must be allowed for, to provide essential variety of crew diets.
