The contribution of the Galileo system in the field of Fundamental Physics and Cosmology
Abstract
In these last decades scientific activities by Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) were developed covering a wide spectrum of topics. The special features of GALILEO system have futherly enlarged this spectrum. The existence of two GALILEO satellites injected in high eccentric orbits (e=0.156) and the opportunity to have onboard two different kind of clocks: Rubidium Atomic Frequency Standard (RAFS) and Portable Hydrogen Maser (PHM) allow us to perform investigations in the field of General Relativity and Gravitation ( measurements of gravitational redshift, Schwarzchild perigee precession, Gravitomagnetic field, tests of alternative gravitation theories) and make GALILEO system an excellent telescope able to search Milky Way Dark Matter in form of Topological Defects at a level of precision never reached.
