On the origins of large deflection flows
Abstract
Plasma measurements near 1 AU include a wealth of information that has barely been tapped. For example, the expansion of coronal mass ejections has been primarily studied with in-situ measurements focusing on the decrease of the radial speed through a CME. Measurements of large non-radial flows should provide information about deflection of CMEs and their three-dimensional expansions. In this work, we investigate the origins of non-radial flows using STEREO/PLASTIC measurements. We look into CMEs that are crossed at high impact parameter to explore wether such non-radial flows hold information about the threes-dimensional nature of CME expansion.
