Exploring Earth-Like Planets Using InfraRed Doppler (IRD)
Abstract
Planets orbiting stars other than the sun are called extrasolar planets or exoplanets, and a quest for them is one of the hottest topics in astronomy today. Subaru telescope has achieved significant results in this field, such as a discovery of a jovian planet having a huge solid core by radial-velocity method and that of a jupiter analog by high-contrast infrared imaging camera. And now a quest for earth-like planets is ongoing with a state-of-the-art infrared Doppler instrument, IRD. Here we introduce IRD and its Subaru-Strategic-Program, IRD-SSP.
