Joint Spatio-Temporal Simulation of Gridded Hourly Wind-Solar Fields across Texas
Abstract
The application of a K-Nearest Neighbor Space-Time Simulator (KSTS) has been extended to data exhibiting heterogeneity in its evolution across a spatial domain. The heterogeneous dynamics is captured by inclusion of a clustering step in the domain of the k-nearest neighbors at each time step. This clustering based KSTS method is applied to gridded wind-solar fields across ERCOT. We show that this method is able to capture the data generation process and the generated simulations are representative of the spatio-temporal characteristics of the underlying high-dimensional data. Further applications of this simulator to stochastic optimization and uncertainty analysis in grid management are demonstrated.
