Multilevel transmission scheme based on parity check codes for VLC with dimming control
Abstract
In the past few years, visible light communication (VLC), which uses solid-state lightings to transmit information, has been regarded as an emerging way of wireless communication technology. For the combination of illumination and communication, dimming control is a necessary function for VLC systems. Traditional dimming control binary-based dimming schemes are spectral inefficient, while most of the multilevel transmission schemes worsen the error performance of the system. In this paper, motivated by the better characteristics of parity check codes, we propose a multilevel transmission scheme which provides better error performance maintaining spectral efficiency compared with other multilevel dimming schemes.
