Core-clad Pr(3+)-doped Ga(In)GeAsSe glass fibers for Mid-IR radiation sources
Abstract
Pr(3+)-doped Ga(In)GeAsSe glass fibers having the various core and clad glass compositions, the core/clad diameters ratio, and 500-2600 ppmw dopant concentrations, are prepared. Optical losses of fibers having 10-40 μm core diameters are 0.8-1.2 dB/m at wavelengths outside the range of the Pr(3+) absorption bands. Fibers manifest photoluminescence at 2.4 μm wavelength and a broadband intensive emission in the 3.5-6.0 μm spectral range For the first time, the core-clad fibers are fabricated from the 1300 ppmw Pr(3+)-doped Ga3Ge31As18Se48 glass, having higher glass transition temperature (356 °C) in comparison with previously prepared REE-doped GaGeAsSe glass fibers. These fibers withstand the 1.56 μm CW laser pump power up to 1.6 W. It is demonstrated for the 2.5 m length fiber samples.
