Discovery of the first Onthophilus species from mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber (Coleoptera: Histeridae)
Abstract
For the first time, the histerid genus Onthophilus Leach, 1817 is found from the mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber with a new species Onthophilus yingae sp. nov. The new species can be clearly assigned to the genus Onthophilus by sharing an identical set of characters with the extant species. As direct evidence, this new finding demonstrates the ancient origin of Onthophilus.
