The 10 Year Record of GOSAT Carbon Dioxide Measurements from the NASA ACOS b9 Full Physics Retrieval Algorithm
Abstract
A ten year data record of the dry-air mole fraction of total column carbon dioxide (XCO2) from the NASA Atmospheric Carbon Observations from Space (ACOS) build 9 (b9) retrieval algorithms is presented. Bias correction and quality filtering of the XCO2 product is discussed, along with validation against measurements from both OCO-2 and TCCON, and against models.
Results indicate an improvement in the v9 XCO2 product relative to the earlier v7. The new data set includes observations over bright surfaces (land, gain-M measurements), which were not part of the v7 product. The quality filtering removes a slightly larger fraction of soundings compared to v7. An unexplained negative decay of the XCO2 on the order of 0.05 (land) to 0.10 (ocean) ppm per year is observed relative to the truth metrics. The data are available on the NASA DISC in the form of the per-orbit standard Level 2 Full Physics products, as well as the user-friendly daily aggregated L2Lite files, which contain the results from the bias correction and quality filtering procedures.- Publication:
