The Efficiencies of O(1S) and O(1D) Excitation Mechanisms in Aurora
Abstract
Efficiencies of six O(1S) excitation mechanisms and seven O(1D) excitation mechanisms in aurora were studied using a numerical modeling with the novel time-dependent physicochemical model of auroral atmosphere. It is shown that in interval 90-200 km the main mechanism of the 1D state excitation is electron impact on atomic and molecular oxygen. The 1S state excitation occurs mainly by electron impact on atomic oxygen and energy transfer from N2(A3).
