AtLAST: Science Cases for a 50 m Class Single Dish sub-mm Telescope
Abstract
AtLAST is a international effort to study the scientific merit for and possible technical implementation of a large-aperture sub-mm single dish telescope to complement ALMA and serve future submm facility needs. AtLAST is driven also by the need for a platform to host the powerful next-generation MKID cameras. Much like the SDSS but at sub-mm and mm wavelengths, the capability for low resolution imaging spectroscopy with a wide field-of-view enables a census of continuum and line emission throughout the visible universe. We sketch some science cases for such a large survey telescope.
