Freight service network design with heterogeneous preferences for transport time and reliability
Abstract
A new network design model targeting service performance improvement with heterogeneous users is presented. An empirical application of Chinese shippers using the freight railway system is developed. Two distinct user classes are identified with a multinomial logit choice model and a latent class model. The network with 2 classes outperforms the network with a single user class, by reducing costs and improving service quality.
