Road tests of self-driving vehicles: Affective and cognitive pathways in acceptance formation
Abstract
Conducted a field study involving an automated vehicle (AV) Tested a model for explaining public acceptance of SDVs based on the trust heuristic and affect heuristic. Measured acceptance of road test (ART) for and behavioral intention (BI) to use SDVs. Direct experience increased the model's explanatory power for ART. Affective pathway (vs. cognitive pathway) played a more important role in forming BI and ART.
