Sizes of Particles, Clumps, and Holes in Saturn's Rings from Cassini UVIS Stellar Occultation Statistics in Highly Resolved Ring Structure
Abstract
Cassini UVIS stellar occultations are measurements of the intensity of the light from a star passing through the rings. The intensity of the incoming light changes as ring particles of different sizes pass between the star and spacecraft. Using statistics, we are able to relate this to learn information about the distribution and sizes of the ring particles.
