CARINA: A sample return mission concept to a near-Earth D-type asteroid
Abstract
CARINA is a sample return mission concept to a near earth D-type asteroid. The mission aims to provide more information about D-type asteroids and to obtain new insights about the evolution of the solar system, the origin of life on Earth and the relationship between asteroids an comets. To achieve these goals, CARINA plans to collect samples from the D-type asteroid 2002 AT4 and analyse them on Earth. In this presentation we will introduce the different parts of the development of CARINA: the mission scientific context and its main goals, the spacecraft design, the instruments required on board and the mission profile.
