Magnetic Doppler broadening measurement on Gadolinium-doped GaN
Abstract
Magnetism of Gadolinium-doped gallium nitride (GaGdN) depending on the Ga flux during crystal growth is investigated using magnetic Doppler broadening (MDB) measurements and M-H measurements. In Ga deficient condition, the matrix phase of GaGdN layer is regarded as GaN due to the precipitation of GdN nanoparticles. From the MDB measurements, magnetic moments at gallium vacancies (VGa) in GaN is detected, however, ferromagnetism derived from GdN nanoparticle is dominant. In Ga rich condition, pure GaGdN layer was formed and weak ferromagnetism was observed. The MDB measurements detect the magnetic moments at VGa in GaGdN, which might be a source of magnetism.
