Wet chemical synthesis of KSr2I5:Eu2+ phosphor
Abstract
KSr2I5:Eu2+ is a recently discovered scintillator with high light yield and energy resolution. In conventional methods, KSr2I5 is prepared by melting the constituent iodides. This involves heating the powders at 720 C for 12 hours to homogenize the melt. We have described a wet chemical procedure for synthesizing highly efficient, Eu2+ activated phosphors based on alkali alkaline earth double halides with strong excitation in nUV region. We successfully prepared KSr2I5:Eu2+ powders by this method. Synthesis and photoluminescence characterization of these phosphors are described in this paper.
