Miniaturized Fluxgate Magnetometers
Abstract
Fluxgate magnetometers have extensive flight heritage as ground-breaking science instruments that nonetheless require relatively modest system resources (e.g. mass, volume, power, and money). However, for some mission-scenarios resources are extremely limited and there exists demand for even lower-resource magnetometers still capable of world-class science. I discuss recent developments in the modernization of miniaturized fluxgate magnetometers from the Goddard magnetometry group. Starting with miniaturized fluxgates from 1990s (e.g. the POGS magnetometer) these mini-mags will fly on a variety upcoming missions including the GTOSat CubeSat mission.
