The GRIDS Instrument for the petitSat Mission
Abstract
The Gridded Retarding Ion Drift Sensor (GRIDS) is one of two main instruments slated to fly on the petitSat CubeSat. GRIDS will be responsible for characterizing the ion population in the F-region ionosphere by measuring the 3-D ion drift, the ion temperature, and the ion density. The GRIDS sensor relies on proven techniques but has been specifically designed to operate within the constraints of the CubeSat design envelope. The result is a relatively compact, capable, low SWaP sensor.
