Korea Ionospheric Data Assimilative Regional Model (KIDARiM)
Abstract
Ionospheric changes have a strong influence on GPS communication, geodetic, traffic information, shortwave communication, and inshore fishing in modern society. Therefore, the importance of constant monitoring and reliable predicting ionospheric environment is increasing. Especially, the mid-latitude ionosphere including the Korean peninsula is strongly influenced by neutral atmospheric wind due to the nature of the geomagnetic field structure, and is influenced by geographical, environmental, and seasonal factors due to continental distribution characteristics. Therefore, it is essential to develop an ionospheric prediction model that is optimized for the regional characteristics of the Korean peninsula based on domestic ionospheric observations, for reliable ionospheric forecasts/alerts over the Korean peninsula. Thus, we developed an ionospheric prediction model based on data assimilation optimized for characteristics of Korean peninsula area, which is Korea Ionospheric Data Assimilative Regional Model (KIDARiM). In this presentation, we introduce "KIDARiM".
