Designing Clean Energy Futures for the United States
Abstract
There is substantial debate around future energy systems that can power the entire economy in the United States. Vibrant Clean Energy undertakes research and study in planning the design of the future energy system under deep decarbonization constraints. Fortunately, the United States has numerous pathways to reach a near-zero energy system, but the costs, benefits, and impacts are disparate and could create inertia in a particular pathway's ultimate progress in implementation. The presentation shows various pathways for the United States and how metrics compare between them. The main conclusion of the presentation is that there is a possible pathway that is low-cost and low-emissions with minimal adverse impacts; but will require delicate policy implementation to ensure its success.
