Development of a Training Knowledge Management System for the SERVIR global network
Abstract
The SERVIR program is a unique partnership between NASA, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and leading regional organizations across the Americas, Africa, and Asia, the latter of which serve as SERVIR's "hubs." The partnership builds capacity to use Earth observations in addressing development challenges. In the 15 years since the program was established, the regional SERVIR hubs have delivered trainings to more than 5,000 professionals in topics related to Earth observations, spatial analysis, and modeling. The large number of trainings constitute both an opportunity and a challenge with respect to knowledge management. While the training materials developed can later be reused in other parts of the SERVIR network, the lack of a central repository for those materials has prevented wider dissemination and use. Therefore, a training knowledge management system is now in development by SERVIR. This will help promote access to SERVIR's wealth of training materials, both inside of the SERVIR network, and in some cases to the greater Earth observation community. This presentation focuses on the structure of this system, as well as on the anticipated benefits of the system.
