Estudio de estrellas variables en cúmulos abiertos mediante el relevamiento VVV
Abstract
This project focuses on a massive search for variable stars in open clusters' fields projected onto higly obscured and absorbed regions of the Galactic bulge and disk, using the Vista Variables in the Via Lactea (VVV) Survey. We present here a summary of the results obtained so far in this search. The new variable stars have been detected using photometric data in the Ks-band. They were classified based on their light curve shapes, its determined parameters (periods and amplitudes) and its location in the corresponding color-magnitude diagrams. The possible physical association of the new variables with the host clusters was also examined. In particular, for the stars classified as Cepheids and RR Lyrae, it was possible to estimate their distances based on the corresponding period-luminosity relation. Finally, we were able to characterize some of the newly discovered binary systems.
