Distances to Classical Pulsators
Abstract
Cepheids and RR Lyrae stars are classical radial pulsators, and they
remain fundamental standard candles. They are crucial for the determination of distances to distant galaxies and eventually the determination of the Hubble constant but also as important tracers of Galactic structure and evolution. Gaia will soon provide very precise zero points for the luminosities for these stars, and the present paper will highlight the status of the present calibrations and some of their shortcomings in view of the upcoming Gaia results.- Publication:
