Vulnerability to fuel price increases in the UK: A household level analysis
Abstract
A novel three-step approach to assess 'oil vulnerability' at the household level. 9% of UK households have low income and spend disproportionate amounts on motoring. They are the least able to reduce fuel expenditure in response to price increases. Car-related economic stress cuts across different social groups and types of area. Among the poor, employment, children and disability increase economic stress.
