A high-precision survey of magnetic white dwarfs
Abstract
We have carried out a survey of magnetic fields in 60 bright white dwarfs. Our observations have a mean uncertainty of about 0.5 kG. The large sample and high accuracy of our measurements allows us to obtain a clearer picture of the frequency of magnetic fields in degenerate stars, and shows that even relatively weak fields are in fact quite rare in white dwarfs.
