UV Remote Sensing of the Daytime Ionosphere and Thermosphere: Challenges, Results, and Future Directions
Abstract
The Ionospheric Connection Explorer (ICON) includes an Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) and a Far-Ultraviolet (FUV) imager that together provide comprehensive data on the daytime ionosphere and thermosphere. Although these sensors and algorithms operate independently, their measurements are designed to be interpreted as part of the comprehensive set of measurements being collected by ICON. We will discuss the ICON daytime ionosphere and thermosphere data products from these sensors and provide information on expectations, caveats, and an overview for potential users of these data. This talk will also present a first look at any early results from the ICON mission that are available from these sensors, and provide comparisons to similar data from current and heritage sensors.
