Science in Action - Examples from Around the Nation of Science (Informed, Engaged, Co-Produced) Climate Action
Abstract
Local communities are ground zero for the impacts of climate change and natural disasters. In light of these, many local governments are actively pursuing actions that will help them understand their vulnerabilities and risks, and implement actions to enhance resilience. In many cases, these activities are informed by strong working relationships with scientific institutions. This presentation will look at some of these partnerships, highlighting what is working well and what opportunities for enhancement exist. Attendees will get a whirlwind tour of local US efforts to create, scale, and sustain climate action and how scientific (social, physical, etc.) science and scientists have played a role in that work. In addition, time will be allocated to hear from the audience about other examples of innovative models for climate service delivery and engagement.
