Climate Science and Policy in the Obama White House
Abstract
As President Obama's Assistant for Science and Technology and the Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy from January 2009 until January 2017, I was centrally engaged in keeping the President up to date on developments in climate science and their implications for policy, as well as working with other senior White House officials, cabinet members, and the President in crafting the Administration's climate and energy policies. I also was active in communicating about these policies with the Congress, the wider science-and-technology community in this country and abroad, and the public. In this presentation I will report on these experiences and insights derived from them concerning personal and professional climate action by climate-change researchers.
