The release of 2nd generation of JAXA satellite product dissemination system(G-Portal)
Abstract
JAXA released the 1st generation of "G-Portal" as a portal web site for search and deliver of the products generated by JAXA earth observation satellites in February 2013. G-Portal is open to everyone and the products can be downloaded with free of charge.
G-Portal handles the products obtained by JAXA earth observation satellites, GPM, TRMM, Aqua, ADEOS, ADEOS-II, ALOS (search only), ALOS-2 (search only), MOS-1, MOS-1b, ERS-1 and JERS-1. The number of the handling products is over 5.17 million in total. Users can search products by physical quantities and/or by satellites/sensors and download selected products with thumbnails and browsers. And users also can obtain products by sftp and ftp. In 2018, we have replaced "the 1st generation G-Portal" to "the 2nd one" and this paper introduces features of "2nd generation G-Portal". (i) Employment of a Machine Interface The G-Portals have been supporting OGC CSW (Open Geospatial Consortium Catalog Service for the Web) interface for world-wide users to discover and access JAXA products. In addition, the 2nd generation G-Portal newly employed a machine-interface based on OGC CSW and it enables users to automatically search and download JAXA products just by adding some scripts to their applications. JAXA updated the 2nd generation G-Portal catalog information on GEOSS (Global Earth Observation System of Systems), CEOS (Committee on Earth Observation Satellites) and fedeo (Federated Earth Observation missions access) for world-wide users to search JAXA products without opening G-Portal itself. Additionally, the 2nd generation G-Portal registers catalogue information about satellite products of other agencies like NASA (MODIS/Terra, Aqua), the products of which can fill the gap of products like SST (Sea Surface Temperature), Chlorophyll a, etc., in between GLI and SGLI operational periods, and realizes "unified" search of those product without considering satellites. (ii) Expanding of Handling Products The 2nd G-Portal has started to handle the GCOM-W products formally treated with the GCOM-W Data Provision Service System (DPSS). As well, the 2nd G-Portal will start to handle the Global Change Observation Mission Climate (GCOM-C) products in December 2018.- Publication:
