Abstract
Data for Our Changing Earth: Impacts of Open Access to Quality Geospatial Data from Trusted Sources
Recently, there has been a global shift towards making research findings available free of charge for readers and researchers. Known as 'Open access,' the strategy in a core strategy in the European Commission as illustrated in particular by the general principle for open access to scientific publications in Horizon 2020 and the pilot for research data. Yet, the emergence of the open access push within the scientific community is causing tension as the community grabbles with the implications of a benevolent approach to sharing data, especially in communities where the sharing of data is commercialized and competitive. Researchers, institutions and Universities must navigate the open access push carefully- areas such as designing a data management plan, considering ethical implications of widespread open sharing, intellectual property rights and protecting your data (when needed)- Publication:
