Collaboration is the Mission of the American Geosciences Institute
Abstract
The American Geosciences Institute serves the geoscience community by providing collaborative leadership and information to connect Earth, science, and people. To satisfy this mission, AGI's Workforce Program engages both the geoscience community as well as the wider STEM community to support its efforts and employs various dissemination strategies to inform the geosciences community about the supply and demand of geoscientists in the workforce and training of the future geoscience workforce. These methods include monthly newsletters highlighting engaging and important data on the workforce, annual and biennial reports detailing the current status of the geoscience workforce, conducting various webinars/short courses offering information and advice on department or program issues and workforce skills development, and regular representation at meetings and workshops discussing relevant issues. Because of AGI's federation of 52 different geoscience member societies, we have a large reach into the geosciences community, and collaborations for research and future data collection efforts organically arise with representatives from various organizations within and outside of the AGI federation. Much of the work conducted by the Workforce Program is responsive to the questions and concerns raised by the geoscience and wider STEM community.
This presentation will highlight these dissemination methods utilized by AGI's Workforce Program, as well as our strategies for creating new collaborative efforts within the geoscience community and with the broader STEM community.- Publication:
