Venus near-surface magnetic environment
Abstract
Although Venus does not have an intrinsic magnetic field, interplanetary magnetic field can potentially penetrate the Venus ionosphere by the diffusion process and permeate the planetary surface and interior. We evaluate the magnetic diffusion time at Venus ionosphere for the Pedersen conductivity, and obtain diffusion times in a range between 11 hours and 40 hours, depending on the solar activity of interest. We construct a model or a scenario of the Venus near-surface magnetic field based on the Venus Express low-altitude measurements and the conductivity estimate.
