The Characteristics of Alteration Mineral Assemblages of Low-Grade Metamorphic Rocks in the Chingshui Geothermal Field, Ilan, Taiwan
Abstract
The Chingshui geothermal power plant was the first its kind built in metamorphic rocks, Ilan, Taiwan in 1981. Nearly 100 rock samples were collected and analyze alteration minerals in attempt to establish the relationship between hydrothermal sources and chemical compositions by using X-ray diffractometer. The results show that crystallinity values of illite are between 0.307 to 0.606, indicating diagenetic zone to anchizone of metamorphism. Illite content are between 48% to 100% for most of samples in metasandstone with some pure illite. In addition, we have found the existence of montmorillonite in metasandstone and slate, percentage of montmorillonite between 1% to 44%. The content of kaolinite is reached 51% and chlorite is between 12% to 29%.
