Ferroelectric behavior of nonlinear optical material MnTeMoO6
Abstract
Ferroelectricity was found in the nonlinear optical material MnTeMoO6. A displacement of Mn3+ ions is demonstrated to be present and likely responsible for the ferroelectric behavior of MnTeMoO6. The positive correlation between ferroelectric behavior and Mn3+ is exhibited. Ferroelectric behavior and Mn3+ ionic have been observed in MnTeMoO6 pellets sintered at 500°C, and disappeared during the sintered temperature increase to 550°C or 600°C. Because the ionic radii of Mn3+ is smaller that Mn2+, thus locally induce electric dipoles, thereby leading to ferroelectric behavior. Utilizing its ferroelectric behavior, MnTeMoO6 can be acted as security storage medium.
