Revising the phylogenetic position of the extinct Mascarene Parrot Mascarinus mascarin (Linnaeus 1771) (Aves: Psittaciformes: Psittacidae)
Abstract
Cytb was sequenced from one of only two museum specimens of the extinct Mascarin parrot. A formerly published sequence from this species is demonstrated to be an artifact due to DNA contamination. Mascarin parrot is part of the Psittacula radiation, not related to Vasa parrots.
