Preparation, characterization and pH-responsive behavior of polyelectrolyte containing disperse red 19
Abstract
An azobenzene polyelectrolyte (APE) was prepared with acrylic acid and chromophore molecule Disperse Red 19 (DR-19) by radical polymerization. The structure of APE was characterized by FT-IR and UV-vis spectroscopy. The thermal property was investigated using the differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The glass transition temperatures (Tg) was 178.1 °C, which showed that the prepared APE had excellent thermal stability. The solubility of APE was measured at different solvent; and the results indicated that the APE had excellent solubility at DMF, THF, DMAc and water. Effect of different pH value on the UV-Vis absorption spectra of APE solution was studied; and the result showed that APE solution had good pH-responsive behavior. Influences of different on the UV-Vis absorption spectra of APE solution indicated that with the increasing of temperature, the absorption intensity decrease. These results showed that the prepared polyelectrolyte APE has potential applications in protection and the controlled release of medicine based on polymer as carrier.
