Evaluating the Waveform Correlation Event Detection System (WCEDS) through comparison with an analyst catalog
Abstract
The Waveform Correlation Event Detection System (WCEDS) is a backprojection technique for seismic event detection that has recently been updated for continuous data processing. In this presentation, we report on the evaluation of WCEDS by a detailed comparison with an analyst catalog, and on recent improvements to the processing algorithms that include the use of grid nodes outside the region of interest, the addition of depth to the parameter space, and the use of variable grid spacings based on station density. Finally, we report on the first multi-year WCEDS event catalog for the state of Utah, and compare that catalog with catalogs developed by University of Utah to quantify the completeness of the WCEDS catalog relative to the analyst-reviewed UU catalog.
