OCO-2 v8 Data Overview

The Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 (OCO-2) mission recently released the v8 data products which provide more than 3 years of global total column CO2 (XCO2) measurements. We provide a look at the XCO2 products and its associated diagnostics from this data release. During normal operations, OCO-2 gathers 20-30 million soundings per month, of which approximately 25% are selected for XCO2 retrievals, up from approximately 18% in the previous version. We examine temporal dependence of XCO2, spatial coverage, data quantity, and quality statistics. The bias correction, warn levels, and aerosols are analyzed to quantify their temporal behavior. OCO-2 XCO2 is also be compared to the Total Carbon Column Observing Network (TCCON) XCO2.
