Characterizing the Least Studied Galactic Synchrotron-Dominated Supernova Remnant: G330.2+1.0
Abstract
We propose an ACIS-I observation of the least studied of the five Galactic supernova remnants dominated by X-ray synchrotron emission, G330.2+1.0, to measure expansion and shock velocities, and to search for small-scale structure (thin rims) present in the others. Comparison of our proposed 150 ks observation with 2006 observations will allow the measurement of expansion as low as 0.1% in 11 years, or shock velocities considerably slower than those estimated to exist ( 3000 km/s). Spectral analysis of small regions may reveal more thermal emission. If no expansion is seen, our picture of particle acceleration will need significant revision.
