Is urban greening for everyone? Social inclusion and exclusion along the Gowanus Canal
Abstract
Cleaning and greening a neighborhood are not synonymous with beneficial. Pollution can be viewed as a barrier to the social harms related to environmental gentrification. The level of activity in decision making, views on whether the area should be cleaned up or not, and relative stability of residents in the area impact if participants feel the decision making process is inclusive or exclusive.
