RR Lyrae binary systems in the Galactic bulge
Abstract
The apparent lack of RR Lyrae stars in binary systems has been a mystery for decades. Without such systems, a direct mass determination of these variables has been out of reach, and the modeling of pulsation and evolution of these stars was left without this important constraint. We have searched for such systems using the O-C method in the light curves collected by the OGLE project towards the Galactic bulge. We have identified 20 good candidates out of 1952 investigated stars. We have also derived the first lower limit of such systems of at least 4%.
