The NUMA/NUMO Model for Nonhydrostatic Atmosphere and Ocean Dynamics
Abstract
This talk will describe our recent work on developing a framework for constructing nonhydrostatic atmospheric and ocean models. The same code base can use NUMA (the Non hydrostatic Unified Model of the Atmosphere) or NUMO (the Nonhydrostatic Unified Model of the Ocean). NUMA/NUMO is unified in the sense that it uses a unified continuous/discontinuous Galerkin formulation for the spatial discretization and is also unified across the scales of the problem (meso-scale and global scale). In this talk, I will describe the capabilities of this model for solving relevant problems in geophysical fluid dynamics.
