Microscopic adjustment of misfit strain and charge segregation in [Bi2Sr2O4 ]0.51CoO2
Abstract
From scanning tunneling microscopy of the misfit-layered cobaltate [Bi2Sr2O4 ]0.51CoO2 single crystals, we observed structural short corrugations oriented in the direction inclined with respect to the incommensurate axis. Results show that the spatial distribution of the electronic charge density is also modified in relation to the atomic displacement. Our data strongly suggest that the rocksalt structure flexibly mounted on the CoO2 layer affects the electronic properties of this system.
